2014

31 Dec

After an extended holiday, I’m looking forward to a new year. I’m finally starting to feel at home in the city and it already/still feels like spring here, which has me so inspired and motivated. Here are some things I want to do this year. blogbetterI’m really proud of this space and all I can think about is making it better. I want to keep a more regular posting schedule and get ahead on posts, how great would it be to have things put together a week or two in advance? I also want to improve my blog photography, particularly staging and layout.
takemorephotosPractice makes better, right? I want to try a 365 photo project, maybe one with prompts like The Idea Room’s or Fat Mum Slim’s.
usecookbooksLast year I got into the habit of regularly trying new recipes by starting to cook through my Pinterest food folder. The real secret is remembering to pick up unusual ingredients on grocery day. This year I want to pay more attention to my ever-growing cookbook collection. Here’s a couple I got for Christmas. cookbooks2readmoreSince I graduated college, I have finished a pathetic number of books. This has to change. Here are a few titles already on my bookshelf to get me started. I’d love recommendations, read anything good lately?BooksToRead

I feel like everyone has to read Gone Girl. It pulled me in and I couldn’t put it down! I also recommend God-Shaped Hole and How to Kill a Rockstar by Tiffanie DeBartolo. My favorites.

Ooo I will check those out! Thanks for the suggestions! I’m a little late to the party with Gone Girl, I think it’s currently being made into a movie.

I love that you said “things I want to do this year” instead of resolutions. Feels more motivating and enjoyable to me! The things on your list are on mine too, even though I haven’t really taken the time to make my own list yet. Thanks for the inspiration, and the like 🙂

Love your blog and style! I’m also trying to write more regularly and would love accountability from a fellow blogger if you’re interested. I totally understand if you don’t have a ton of time for it. Great resolutions, I can’t wait to see what you have in store and read about your experiences in the upcoming year!

So many New Years resolutions are a a drag but yours sound like fun–should make them easier to stick to! Regarding books: I loved Guns, Germs, and Steel and simply could not figure out the love given to Gone Girl. I’ll be interested to hear what you think of the books!

Devil in the White City is an amazing read if you haven’t read it already! The Sixth Lamentation is also thought-provoking in my opinion. 🙂

I read the blip for The Devil in the White City. It sounds fantastic, it’s definitely on my reading list now. Thanks for the recommendations!

How cool! I would love to know what you try. I tried the Brown Rice Stir Fry p.74 and wasn’t too impressed.

It funny because my resolution was to post less! I’m striving for once every other day, but they’ll be more quality posts. Everything has a catch!

For suggestions for reading, I recommend The Sight by David Clement-Davies and Fire Bringer by the same author. They’re just awesome books with great description intertwined with a bit of real history. Really awesome writing though!

Hope you had a good New Years!

The Descendants is an amazing book. It’s narrative is tragic, funny, acerbic + heart warming all at the same time! And there’s history + Hawaii mixed in!
